July 20, 2017
public markets, best of montreal, attractions montreal, hotel montreal

Montreal is such a vibrant city with plenty to see and do. In summer, one of his must see is to visit one - or the whole! - public procurement in the city. This is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture of the city and meet a ton of Montrealers. What's more, you will have the chance to discover various products! Some of your best discoveries could take place in one of these markets. Here are the ones you absolutely must visit!

1. Jean-Talon Market

7070 Avenue Henri-Julien – Opening hours: Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 am to 6 pm, Thursday and Friday from 7 am to 8 pm, Saturday from 7 am to 6 pm and Sunday from 7 am to 5 pm.

Jean-Talon Market is one of Montreal’s oldest markets, dating back to 1933. It sits conveniently in the center of Little Italy and has a multicultural feel to the shops. Jean-Talon is one of the biggest markets in North America, and the sense of community is strong and welcoming. You’ll find your local fruits and vegetables here, but also lovely spices, oils, artisanal baked goods, cheese, fresh flowers and more.

2. Atwater Market

138 Avenue Atwater – Hours of operation: Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 am to 6 pm, Thursday from 7 am to 7 pm, Friday from 7 am to 8 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 7 am to 5 pm.

Atwater, located near the Lachine Canal, is known for the wide selection of butchers and delicatessens on offer. The companies present have been there for generations. Their skills and superior knowledge in all butchers products will allow to discover quality meats. You will find the perfect cut, in addition to enjoying the advice of butcher’s experts who are always happy to help you. From spring through summer, there are plenty of stands with local produce.

3. Mini-Market on the Plateau

111 street Roy Est – Opening hours: From June 20 to October 26, Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 7 pm.

The mini-market on the Plateau, presented by Santropol Roulant’s market, promotes the local economy and a healthy lifestyle. It does so by providing fruits and vegetables nearby. Different traders also offer organic meats, bakery products and delicious dishes around the world.

4. Maisonneuve Market

4445 Ontario East – Opening hours: Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 am to 6 pm, Thursday and Friday from 7 am to 8 pm, Saturday from 7 am to 6 pm and Sunday from 7 am to 5 pm.

The Maisonneuve Market was housed in a gorgeous stone building near the turn of the 20th century and located in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve area. It was closed in the 1960s, but the community got together so the market reopened. It is since the 1980s that the current market exists. You will find butchers, fishmongers, cheese makers, as well as various local products.

5. Lachine Market

1875 Notre-Dame – Opening hours: Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 am to 6 pm, Thursday and Friday from 7 am to 8 pm, Saturday from 7 am to 6 pm and Sunday from 7 am to 5 pm.

Lachine is the oldest of the Montreal markets, having first opened its doors in 1845! This market is incredibly resistant: it lived in a fire in the 18th century, and it remains open even today despite the competition of grocery chains. Despite its small size, the central location has greatly helped it prosper. You can find everything from cheese to pastries, all year round and at great prices.

In short, if you shop in one of its public markets, you can taste unique local products, discover new flavors and meet passionate people. Did you know that Le Roberval offers suites and studios with kitchenettes? You can prepare your meals after spending your day in the public markets! Ask about our packages!
